Mitochondrial DNA Part B: Resources publishes Mitochondrial DNA Announcement Papers (short reports on whole mitochondrial DNA genomes) and Short Communications. This open access sister journal to Mitochondrial DNA Part A publishes high-quality and concise manuscripts reporting the sequence of full mitochondrial genomes.
In addition, the journal publishes high-quality short communications (mitocommunications) on the following topics:
- Physical, chemical, and biochemical aspects of mtDNA and proteins involved in mtDNA metabolism, and/or interactions
- Population genetics, phylogenetics and human evolution that use mitochondrial DNA as a source of evidence for studies
- Human mitochondrial disorders and the utility of mitochondrial DNA information in medical studies
- Unique methodological or algorithmic approaches to the analysis of mtDNA data sets
Peer Review Statement
Mitochondrial DNA Part B: Resources is an international, peer-reviewed journal which publishes high quality, original research contributions to scientific knowledge. As the journal exclusively publishes mitogenome announcements and mitocommunications and no original research or reviews articles, all manuscript submissions are subject to initial appraisal by the Editor, and if found suitable for further consideration, to a detailed Editorial review process.
Mitogenome announcements published in the journal undergo the following peer review assessment:
- Subject must focus on a named genome species (not domestic animal or strain)
- MtDNA genome sequence must be original or add something new and relevant to the existing data on the mtDNA genome
- Location of the specimen must be specified
- Disposition of the specimen must be specified and considered reliable
- Genbank/EMBL/DDBJ accession number must be included
- Phylogenetic tree must be included and all sequences used to generate the tree required
- Genbank accession numbers
- Declaration of interest must be included
- Papers are then subject to further external peer review as required
Mitocommunications will be subject to single blind peer review by independent anonymous referees.
Submission to the journal is online via ScholarOne Manuscripts.
