The journal is devoted to comparative zoology with a special emphasis on morphology, systematics, biogeography and evolutionary ecology. The papers report new findings relating to real taxa and evaluate them from a comparative perspective. In this way, the journal aims to develop our understanding of the organismic world from an evolutionary standpoint. The Zoologischer Anzeiger is one of the oldest German zoological journals.
