Scandinavian Journal of Urology and Nephrology publishes papers on urology and nephrology preferentially from the Nordic countries. The aim of the journal is to foster basic and clinical research work preferentially originating from the five Nordic countries and also attain an international scientific standard within the two fields of medicine. Short preliminary reports and important case reports are published promptly. As basic research work is of increasing importance in the field of urology and nephrology, papers of this kind are also accepted. Since 1967 nearly 200 supplements have been published. From its inception in 1967 the journal has been under the auspices of the Scandinavian Association of Urology, and from 1994 the Danish, Icelandic, Norwegian, Swedish, and, from 1996, the Finnish Associations of Urology. As of 1984 the journal has also been the official organ for the Scandinavian Association of Nephrology. The journal is published by the Society for the Publication of Acta Chirurgica Scandinavica, founded by Professor Axel Key in 1869, and sponsored by the Key Foundation, Sweden.
