Ecological Monographs, issued quarterly, was established in 1931 to provide an outlet for longer papers similar to articles otherwise published in Ecology. The two journals share the same Board of Editors and editorial policies. The criteria for assignment of article-style papers to one journal or the other vary, but regular articles over 17 pages may be published in Ecological Monographs. With the exception of "Perspectives" papers and occasional "Concepts and Synthesis" papers, all papers longer than 20 printed pages are published in Ecological Monographs.
