科学年会计划委员会成员NicoleA.Turgeon医学博士表示“该主题会议的亮点是世界知名的科研先锋分享他们的专业知识”。
        
该主题的开幕时间是6月5日，议题为：下一代β细胞替换疗法。第一个发言者为哈佛医学院Xander大学教授、哈佛Hughes医学研究所的研究员DouglasA.Melton医学博士。Melton博士的试验室在2014年10月发表的工作显示：β细胞移植还处于临床前研究阶段，仅仅迈出了向人体临床试验进军的一小步。
        
Emory大学医学院的外科副教授Turgeon博士表示“本次会议将向与会者报告β细胞替换疗法的基础科学创新，同时展望β细胞替换疗法的未来。”
        
在6月8日举行的“β细胞替换疗法的临床进展和未来展望”研讨会中，会议将继续对β细胞替换疗法进行“未来展望”。会议的开幕发言是：CIT-07，一个针对1型糖尿病的前瞻性的、单组、多中心的胰岛移植研究。Turgeon博士表示“计划委员会希望研究人员在科学年会上报告他们的主要终点结果。”
        
试验的主要终点是：初始胰岛移植365天后糖化血红蛋白小于7%、以及初始胰岛移植28天到365天期间未出现严重低血糖的1型糖尿病患者的比例。试验时，患者可进行多达三次独立的胰岛移植。试验开始于2006年，2014年结束。
        
其他发言者将报告免疫抑制方案的最新研究进展，讨论替代移植位点，以便缓和移植生存率低的状况、缓解由于标准门静脉输注引起的其他问题。
        
免疫/移植免疫板块的其他会议包括：6月6日举行的研讨会“1型糖尿病高危个体的DNA、RNA、生物标记物预测、诊断和分层。”，以及6月8日举行的研讨会“翻译后修饰的抗原促发了胰岛的自身免疫”。
