来自2000年代之前的数据表明，在收缩压和舒张压（SBP / DBP）≥140/ 90mmHg的美国成年人中发生事件心血管疾病（CVD）事件占大多数。但是随着医疗水平的提高，人群的血压呈下降趋势，并且高血压的管理也逐步在完善。本研究通过对美国同时代的三个临床研究队伍（卒中的地理和种族的差异研究[REGARDS]、动脉粥样硬化的多民族研究[MESA]和杰克逊心脏研究[JHS]）中的SBP/DBP<140/90 mmHg的人群进行心血管事件发生的评估(n=31,856; REGARDS=21,208; MESA=6,779; JHS=3,869)。血压的测量由专业人员进行评估，降血压药物由患者口述提供，主要终点事件是心血管事件的发生，主要包括致命或者非致命的卒中、非致命的心梗、致命的冠心病或心衰。通过平均7.7年时间的随访，2584名参与者发生了心血管事件。63.0% (95%CI: 54.9%-71.1%)的心血管事件发生在SBP/DBP<140/90 mmHg的参与者中，其中有58.4% (95%CI: 47.7%-69.2%) 和68.1% (95%CI: 60.1%-7
