"我们能够将这些孕液成分给老年人或宇航员注射,从而促进成骨细胞的分化与生长"。该研究的首席科学家,来自伦敦学院大学的Pascale Guillot说道。


"这些干细胞对于保护骨骼具有十分优越的能力,不管是骨头的强度还是骨骼的生长方式都有了质的提高"。


Guillot等人收集了健康的,怀孕12周(或临产前)的孕妇羊水样品,并从中提取了羊水间质干细胞。之后,他们将这些干细胞导入了小鼠体内,从而能够进入骨组织中。


接受干细胞接种的小鼠本身患有脆骨症,这是一类遗传缺陷导致的疾病,与人类随着年龄的增长,矿质元素的流失而引起的脆骨症状十分相似。


另外,由于该疾病与人类的骨质疏松症也十分相似,因此它是一个研究老龄化骨质流失的理想动物模型。


研究者们在接种八周之后比较了试验组与对照组小鼠体内大腿骨与胫骨的脆化程度。


结果显示:对照组小鼠的骨组织中平均的骨裂现象大于一次,而实验组小鼠的骨裂现象则有了明显的下降,平均下降程度为79%。


研究者们称,虽然此前在小鼠水平已有通过注射脐带血干细胞治疗脆骨症的先例,但这一移植手术并不能够提高骨骼的强度,而仅仅能够提高骨骼的柔韧性。


而这一研究表明了羊水干细胞能够同时提高骨骼的强度、柔韧性以及结构。此外,由于羊水样品采自孕妇羊水破裂的时刻,因此它所产生的免疫反应也相对较低。
