10年前，韩国科学家黄禹锡（Hwang Woo-suk）宣称克隆出了首个人类胚胎干细胞，这在当时造成了轰动。然而，黄禹锡却因被曝出论文数据造假、通过非道德手段获得人类卵子等丑闻而致使自己缔造的帝国瓦解，甚至还锒铛入狱。用黄禹锡所在研究大学的校长的话来描述，“（黄禹锡）是我们整个科学界乃至全国一个不可磨灭的污点。”



即便如此，黄禹锡仍未放弃对科学的追求。自然网站（nature.com）刊文指出，黄禹锡现仍在其曾于 2006 年创办的 Sooam 生物技术研究基金会中从事研究工作。目前，黄禹锡跟他的 45 名团队成员仍在进行狗、猪、牛等动物的克隆研究。而这些研究最终的目的则都是为了能够找到治疗人类糖尿病、阿尔茨海默等疾病的方法。另外，黄禹锡甚至还打算未来能够克隆出猛犸象。
